Block the sun with minerals! …but don’t forget about Vitamin D!

Summer is almost here!  Remember to find a good mineral-based sunscreen (one with zinc oxide is great!) and apply liberally and often.  No matter what the SPF factor it won't be effective for long so you'll need to re-apply frequently throughout the day, especially when you are out and about.
Now some doctors get a bit upset about using sunblocks …and understandably so…the sun is one of only a few good sources from which we get our much needed vitamin D supply.  So, get your Vitamin D level checked.  If it's low you may be able to supplement with cod liver oil…yum…just kidding…yuck!  But, don't fret, it's available in soft gels.  As always, consult your doctor first before taking supplements!
